POSITION OVERVIEW:

Michigan Nanny Solutions is excited to introduce an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Full-Time Family Assistant to join a wonderful family of four as they make their move back to Kalamazoo this January! With two delightful children, two lovable dogs, and two busy physician parents, this family is hoping to find a capable, compassionate, and energetic professional who will become a trusted and valued part of their lives for many years to come.

The family’s 6-year-old daughter is a bright, outgoing first grader who has never met a stranger! She’s enthusiastic, determined, and wonderfully well-rounded, with interests ranging from piano, tennis, swimming, and tumbling to dress-up, dolls, and exploring the outdoors. Her younger brother is a sweet and spirited 4½-year-old who will be attending full-day Pre-K. While he can be a little reserved in new situations, his playful personality shines once he feels comfortable. He’s imaginative, affectionate, and full of character, and will thrive with someone who genuinely enjoys getting down on his level to play, explore, and discover the world together.

With both children attending the same elementary school full-time, this position offers an appealing combination of hands-on childcare and household support. The Family Assistant will manage morning and afternoon routines, school transportation, and extracurricular activities, while school hours will be dedicated to family laundry, meal planning and preparation, household organization, general upkeep, and caring for the family’s dogs. When school isn’t in session, the role shifts toward active childcare, with plenty of opportunities for adventures, outings, summer camps, and fun!

Scheduling flexibility is an especially important component of this position. The family guarantees 40 hours of pay each week, with variable Monday–Friday shifts scheduled within a 6:00 AM–6:00 PM window. Many shifts will begin around 6:40 AM and end between 4:00 and 5:00 PM, while others will be considerably shorter depending on the parents’ schedules. Because both parents work in hospital-based medicine, occasional unexpected delays may require flexibility at the end of the workday. The family is committed to planning schedules thoughtfully, communicating changes promptly, and respecting their Family Assistant’s time.

As returning Michigan Nanny Solutions clients who have enjoyed successful, long-term relationships with past professional nannies, this family understands just how special the right match can be! Their hope is to find a Family Assistant who will grow alongside their children for the next 10+ years, bringing warmth, creativity, initiative, and sound judgment to both childcare and household responsibilities. If you’re an experienced nanny or Family Assistant who loves building relationships, welcomes variety in your workday, and takes pride in helping a household run smoothly, this could be the long-term position you’ve been hoping to find!

YOU’LL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU LOVE:

Two Wonderful Children with Big Personalities:

These two children are at such fun ages, and their parents are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys connecting with children through play, conversation, shared experiences, and everyday adventures. From cheering at sporting events and encouraging musical interests to imaginative play, outdoor exploration, and spontaneous outings, there will be endless opportunities to create special memories together. You’ll be encouraged to discover what makes each child tick, celebrate their individual strengths, and help them develop confidence, responsibility, and kindness along the way.

The Best of Both Worlds:

If you love working with children but also find satisfaction in household organization and accomplishing projects independently, this position offers an ideal balance! During the school year, your mornings and afternoons will revolve around the children, while the hours between school drop-off and pickup provide dedicated time to care for the home. You’ll enjoy the freedom to establish a productive routine, tackle household responsibilities, and see the difference your efforts make in the family’s everyday life. When the children are home, your attention will shift to creating engaging experiences and ensuring they are safe, happy, and well cared for.

A Family That Trusts Your Professional Judgment:

This family knows that an exceptional Family Assistant brings far more than an extra set of hands. They appreciate professionals who are dependable, resourceful, thoughtful, and capable of making good decisions without constant direction. You’ll be welcomed to suggest activities, establish routines, identify household needs, and approach challenges with creativity and common sense. The parents value open communication and collaboration, but they also believe in giving their Family Assistant the independence and trust to do what they do best.

Variety, Flexibility & a Little Adventure:

No two days will look exactly alike, and that’s part of what makes this position interesting! Some mornings will begin bright and early, while other days may offer a shorter shift. School days will bring opportunities to focus on household projects, while summer days may include swimming, playgrounds, summer camps, local attractions, and outings around West Michigan. And if you’re a dog lover, you’ll have two fantastic four-legged companions to keep you company throughout the week!

A Lasting Relationship with a Family That Values You:

The family isn’t simply looking for childcare coverage for the next year or two. They’re hoping to find someone who will become an established, dependable, and much-loved presence in their children’s lives as they grow. They understand the value of consistency and appreciate the unique bond that develops when children have another trusted adult cheering them on through life’s everyday moments and major milestones. If you’re seeking professional stability, a rewarding long-term relationship, and a family that genuinely values the work you do, you’ll find plenty to love about this position.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Attentive, Engaging Childcare:

Provide warm, responsible, and developmentally appropriate care for both children, creating an environment where they feel safe, supported, and encouraged to be themselves. You’ll help guide morning routines, promote independence with age-appropriate responsibilities, and maintain consistent expectations while making plenty of room for play, laughter, creativity, and fun. The family values caregivers who are actively involved rather than simply supervising, and who can balance patience and understanding with clear boundaries and thoughtful guidance.

School, Activities & Everyday Adventures:

Manage daily school drop-off and pickup, morning preparations, extracurricular transportation, and assistance with homework and school projects. When school isn’t in session, you’ll take the lead in planning engaging activities, playdates, outings, and adventures that keep the children active, curious, and entertained. As the family settles back into Kalamazoo, you’ll also have opportunities to help them rediscover local activities and community resources.

Household & Family Assistant Responsibilities:

While the children are at school, you’ll take ownership of the everyday responsibilities that keep this busy household organized and running smoothly. Professional cleaners will handle the deeper housekeeping, allowing you to focus on family laundry, meal preparation, general upkeep, and household projects.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing laundry for the entire family, including washing, folding, and putting clothing away
  • Maintaining tidiness and organization throughout common areas, the kitchen, and children’s spaces
  • Overseeing meal planning and preparation, grocery orders, and pantry, refrigerator, and household supplies
  • Helping the children take responsibility for their belongings and participate in age-appropriate household chores
  • Periodically organizing and decluttering children’s bedrooms, play areas, toys, and clothing, including setting aside items for donation
  • Assisting with routine household projects and other agreed-upon Family Assistant responsibilities as time permits

Caring for the Family’s Four-Legged Members:

The family’s two beloved dogs are very much a part of the household! You’ll be responsible for letting them outside, feeding them when needed, providing companionship, and enjoying occasional walks during school hours. These cuddly doodles are wonderful companions, and the family hopes to find someone who loves dogs almost as much as they love children!

Communication, Flexibility & Professional Partnership:

Maintain consistent, open communication with the parents regarding the children’s needs, schedules, activities, and household priorities. You’ll be trusted to manage daily responsibilities independently, anticipate needs, and take initiative in the day-to-day behind-the-scenes decisions that benefit their children and home. You’ll also be comfortable with a schedule that varies from day to day and be flexible to accommodate the occasional unexpected extension when a procedure or work emergency delays the parents’ return home.  As seasoned nanny employers, the family recognizes that a successful partnership requires mutual trust, flexibility, and respect, and they’re committed to creating and maintaining a positive professional relationship for years to come.

Experience:

You have at least three years of professional childcare experience, with at least one year of previous work experience as a nanny or Family Assistant in a private home. You’re confident caring for preschool and elementary-aged children, comfortable managing school routines and extracurricular transportation, and experienced in keeping children actively engaged throughout the day. Previous experience balancing childcare with household responsibilities is especially valuable! Above all, you understand the importance of consistency and are genuinely interested in building a lasting relationship with one family.

Skills:

You are organized, adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable independently managing multiple responsibilities. You naturally recognize what needs to be done, prioritize effectively, and transition easily between household projects and hands-on childcare. You approach unexpected changes with practical problem-solving, sound judgment, and a positive attitude, and you’re comfortable with a work schedule that requires occasional flexibility.

Personality:

Most importantly, you understand that flexibility and dependability are especially valuable in a household with two hospital-based physicians, and you’re committed to developing a collaborative, respectful relationship that allows everyone to feel supported and confident in the care of the children and home.
